HMRC's Recycled Money

In June 2012 I quoted David Cameron waxing lyrical about tax avoidance:
"For instance we have put £900m extra into HMRC to enable them to go after aggressive tax avoidance."
As per Channel 4 News today HMRC admit that the £900M was not new investment:
"When we asked the HMRC to explain the give and take in their budgets, they admitted that it was actually “recycled” money."
Snort!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Well I never!

Sort of begs the question where did it come from or get diverted from then?

It can't all have come from Harebrain's extravagent wining & dining & accompanied overseas trips surely. Perhaps they cut back the expenses e.g. 1st class rail fares or simply stopped their "taskforces" costing a fortune in car hire/lease, hotel bills etc. At least they would have no reason to be funding 2nd homes oversees this time! LOL

Trouble is as usual no one cares, its not their money. If you waant a taxation system that enforces high standards, morals and ethics there is a whole mountain range to climb before you get there.

  2. What's the connection between the UKBA shambles and the HMRC shambles?
    Exhibit A:-
"And the official who presided over much of this shambles? Lin Homer the one-time £200k/yr head of the UKBA, has not been dismissed or even disciplined.
Indeed, she has been promoted to chief executive and pemanent secretary of the HMRC - which collects the tax required [LOL!] for the country to function {not sure which one more LOL!}.
Chancellor George Osborne should be very afraid (not).
